About the Artist

  

Artist Statement

I work with oil paint.  I'm stimulated by its oily odor, creamy texture, and rich color.

Painting is a vehicle for interpreting and expressing my emotional response to a particular moment in time.  I translate the energy from that response into my painting through choices of color, brush strokes, and the push and pull of paint.

Much of my work explores the effects of light and shadow, whose vibrant dance of dynamic patterns provides me with inspiration.

Biography

      Born in Clover, South Carolina

      Grew up in Lincolnton, North Carolina

Ann Wallace was born in the rural south, living most of her childhood in Lincoln County,

North Carolina.  She frequently spent time on her grandparents’ farm where she roamed 

the fields and woods.  During those years she developed a love of nature, which would 

eventually influence the subject matter for her creativity.

Known for her warm palette and local area subject matter, Ann has exhibited in both group shows (where she has won awards) and solo shows in Washington state and Arizona.  Her work has been described as expressionistic and lyrical.

Ann’s art studies include workshops and classes with prominent artists Ann Templeton, Al Currier, Melinda Thorsnes, Saim Caglayan and Trish Harding.  She has studied extensively in Bellingham, Washington at the Trish Harding School of Art.

Believing art is a universal language, Ann has worked to promote fine art in communities through art organization memberships, event participation and leadership roles.  She is past President and former board member of the Whatcom Art Guild, holds other memberships of Allied Arts of Whatcom County, Whatcom Art Museum, and the Gilbert Visual Arts League.

Ann divides her time between homes in Bellingham, Washington and Gilbert, Arizona.
