I worked a little more today on my current painting inspired by a visit to Yosemite. I've adjusted some color intensity in the sky, defined the background and foreground trees more with paint and color temperature, added more paint and colors to the river and defined the rocks on the river bank with shadows.

Work In Progress
I've begun working on a new painting. This piece is inspired by a visit I made to Yosemite in autumn. Starting a new piece is always a bit of excitement for me. I try to stay sensitive to the gestures, rhythms and movement I observe of the subject matter. As I work on the piece I'm always reliving the experience I had at that time or place.
This first image is the initial block in, in which I sketch in the composition and suggest areas of value and perhaps lay in a little color. The second image shows a little bit more of work that I've done on the painting. I've made some minor adjustments in the composition and have started to apply paint.
I'll post a few more images later so you can see my progress. Hope you enjoy.

Paintings for the Family
I recently returned from a visit to North Carolina, where I attended our annual Beam family cousins reunion (held near Waynesville in the Blue Ridge Mountains) and visited my brother and other family members.
While there and visiting cousin Evelyn, I had a great time painting alongside her in her studio and completed the painting below, "395 Oregon," which I presented to cousin Doris. The painting is based on a photograph I took on one of my travels through Oregon on highway 395, which runs along the Silvis River near Seneca. My second painting TooHolly Farm was a gift to cousin Lynda, whose Georgia farm is the site for many of our family reunions.

Gilbert Visual Art League 5 x 7 Show and Benefit Sale
I donated these eight paintings to the Gilbert Visual Art League (GVAL) for its 5 x7 mini show, held Nov. 15 on the lawn of Postino Wine Cafe in downtown Gilbert. It was a sunny and moderately warm day in the mid 70s--a great day to be outdoors to view over 70 other paintings contributed by other fellow GVAL members. Commissions from all sales went toward the guild's high school senior scholarship project and annual juried show. Thank you to all patrons and visitors who stopped by and purchased art for a good cause. If you didn't make it to this years show, look for the event next year. It's a great opportunity to find one-of-a-kind pieces of original art and gifts for the holidays. More of my art can be viewed on my website at www.annhoviswallace.com.

The Surprise Invitational art show opened November 15 and runs through December 18 at the West Valley Arts HQ gallery. There was a full house at Opening Reception night with many people enjoying the art and the wonderful jazz band in the courtyard. Talented one-and two-dimensional artists are represented in this show. It is a pleasure to have my oil painting, Waiting for Twilight, be a part of this event. I hope you can stop by to see the exhibit. It is open to the public with free admission.
You can see more of my work on my website at www.annhoviswallace.com .
