On My Easel
Here is the next painting that I'm working on related to my visit to Yosemite National Park. It is blocked in and I've begun to add paint. It is a very sunny day and I want to keep the colors bright and clear. Hopefully I can make it work. I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned.

Meadow Light
I just completed this piece. I'll set it aside and study it a couple of days to see if I need to make any changes.
I'm working on a series of paintings influenced by a visit several years ago to Yosemite National Park. I was very taken by the monumental feel of the place and hope I can convey some of that feeling. Other works in this series will follow over the next few weeks.

The Best & the Brightest
Opening Reception
What a delight! I attended the Opening Reception for the new juried show The Best & the Brightest at Scottsdale Artist School. It is a very strong show. If you haven't seen it yet, plan to stop by. It doesn't close until February 27.
Upon arrival I saw that my entry "Cactus Flowers" was sold. I'm grateful to the art patron who found a place in her/his home for my painting. You can view more of my work at my website, http://www.annhoviswallace.com .

Work In Progress
I worked a little more today on my current painting inspired by a visit to Yosemite. I've adjusted some color intensity in the sky, defined the background and foreground trees more with paint and color temperature, added more paint and colors to the river and defined the rocks on the river bank with shadows.

Work In Progress
I've begun working on a new painting. This piece is inspired by a visit I made to Yosemite in autumn. Starting a new piece is always a bit of excitement for me. I try to stay sensitive to the gestures, rhythms and movement I observe of the subject matter. As I work on the piece I'm always reliving the experience I had at that time or place.
This first image is the initial block in, in which I sketch in the composition and suggest areas of value and perhaps lay in a little color. The second image shows a little bit more of work that I've done on the painting. I've made some minor adjustments in the composition and have started to apply paint.
I'll post a few more images later so you can see my progress. Hope you enjoy.
