New On My Easel

I got this roughly sketched and blocked in today.  This is another subject for my Yosemite series.  It is the largest canvas of the series so far-- 24 x 30 inches.  This is a popular site to view Yosemite Valley from. It is referred to as Tunnel View.  If you've been to the national park, you will probably recognize El Capitan on the left, Yosemite Falls (right mid-ground about left of where the red shadow is, and Half Dome in the far distant right.

I'll keep you posted on progress of this one, as well as the painting from the previous post.   I'm really enjoying working on this group of paintings.

Phase One, sketch and begin block in

Phase Two, quick block-in

The Modernism Movement

I've been out of the studio for a week. My husband and I have just returned from a trip up to Santa Fe and then on to Taos.  It was an art trip mostly.  We went to Santa Fe primarily to see the current exhibit at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum--a private collection of works by Georgia O'Keeffe and some of her contemporaries who were influential in the modernism movement during the first half of the 20th century.  Many of them visited New Mexico and found inspiration in the simplicity and starkness of the landscape, incorporating it into their artistic style of painting.

Some of the artists besides O'Keeffe who were included in the collection are Marsden Hartley, Andrew Dasburg, Edward Hopper, Cady Wells, Stuart Davis.  An exciting exhibit.

Of course we visited a number of galleries and artists' working studios/galleries along the way between Santa Fe and Taos. I also found the old adobe architecture of great interest.  My soul is filled to the brim!

On My Easel

Here is the next painting that I'm working on related to my visit to Yosemite National Park.  It is blocked in and I've begun to add paint.  It is a very sunny day and I want to keep the colors bright and clear.  Hopefully I can make it work.  I'll keep you posted.  Stay tuned.
